German midfielder Leon Goretzka has claimed that he made the right chosen Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich over La Liga giants Barcelona.

Bayern Munich announced that a pre-contract agreement had been reached with the midfielder in January 2018, but Goretzka signed a four-year contract on 1 July.

The 23-year-old, who moved to Allianz Arena from Schalke on a free transfer, has insisted that he has no regret to have rejected Barcelona.

“I have made the best choice with Bayern,” Goretzka said when asked about Barça’s interest.

“That was an honour, of course. I had several options and took a lot of time for my decision and believe that I have made the best choice with Bayern.”

“I see myself as a number eight, but I’m flexible. I’m ready to play in different positions.”

“I have a very positive impression of [head coach Niko] Kovac. Everything else will come over the next few days.”

Goretzka, who was in Russia with Germany for the 2018 World Cup, has been at Schalke since 2013, where he managed to score 19 goals in 147 appearances.
