Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that Manchester United target Jerome Boateng is in open talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a potential move this summer.
Boateng could be on his way moving out of Bayern as the Bundesliga champions boast Niklas Sule, whom they signed last summer from 1899 Hoffenheim.
The 29-year-old will reportedly cost PSG around €60m, although Rummenigge has claimed that the clubs themselves have yet to discuss a price.
Boateng, who joined Allianz Arena side in 2011 from Manchester City, has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League with Man United have emerged as his potential suitors.
However, the Bayern Munich CEO admitted that the French champions have made contact only with the former Manchester City star’s agents.
“At the moment there is no direct contact between the clubs,” Rummenigge told reporters. “But there is contact between his agents and PSG. We have to wait if we could find a basis for a transfer.”
“Now we have to wait and see whether at the end of the day we find a basis on which we can agree on a transfer. We have to find a transfer fee that would be acceptable for both.”
“In principle, we have enough players at this position, even if Jerome leaves.”
The Bavarians do not have a problem of defenders particularly at centre-back, as they have Niklas Süle, Mats Hummels, Javi Martinez and teenage defender Lars Lukas Mai, who made his senior debut last season.
