Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that he held talks with Antoine Griezmann’s representatives over the possible summer move.

The France international attacker has been strongly linked with away move from Atletico Madrid since last summer.

Griezmann almost joined Manchester United last summer but the deal broke down on the last minute due to Atletico’s transfer embargo.

Thereafter, Barcelona have emerged as the favourites for Frenchman’s signature, although he signed a new long-term deal with at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Los Rojiblancos have accused Barcelona to make an illegal approach for Griezmann in October last year. But Bartomeu has claimed that Blaugrana’s relationship with Atletico remains strong.

“I saw Griezmann one day on holiday. We met with his agent, yes. It was in October,” Bartomeu told RAC 1.

“We talk with [Atleti president Enrique] Cerezo about many topics. We have a good relationship with them.”

Griezmann, whose contract with Atletico will run until 2022, has a €100m release clause in his new deal signed last summer.
