Barcelona director Guillermo Amor has played down all rumours suggesting that Manchester United have been linked with a stunning £100m swoop for Philippe Coutinho.

The 26-year-old joined La Liga champions in January 2018 from Liverpool for a £142m deal signing a five-and-a-half-year contract at Nou Camp.

The Brazil international midfielder has since struggled for regular playing time with boss Ernesto Valverde prefers Arthur and Arturo Vidal ahead of him.

It was recently reported that Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG are all interested in the playmaker. But other reports claim that Manchester United have joined the race and have already opened talks about a £100m deal.

However, Barcelona chief Armor has made it clear that Coutinho still has a future at Catalan side.

“Coutinho’s a player with a lot of experience,” Armor told Movistar.

“One of the best players in Europe and he is ready to play [for] five minutes or 90 minutes.”

“He’s a player that thinks more about the team than himself and there are no doubts about him being one of the best players in the world.”

“He’s always played well for Barca, he could play from the off.”

“Barca signed him because he’s one of the best in the world and he’s going to give us a lot.”

“He’s got many years left on his contract and a lot to give to Barcelona.”

United are keen to strengthen their squad this month as they want to stay in touch with their top-four rivals.

Coutinho scored 15 times in 45 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions since moving to the Blaugrana.
