Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has hinted at the reason behind his stay at Wanda Metropolitano after snubbing Manchester United move this summer.
The Uruguay international has made it clear that his contract with Atletico Madrid has not been renewed.
It was reported that Godin could join Manchester United this summer, but a move eventually failed to materialise.
The 32-year-old, who rejected the Old Trafford move on the Premier League transfer deadline day, has claimed that he decided to stay for personal reasons.
Meanwhile, according to The Sun, United boss Jose Mourinho claimed that the player’s agent wanted to use the Red Devils’ interest in landing his client a fresh deal at Atleti.
“I have not renewed,” Godin told The Mirror.
“I have had offers, although I have decided to stay for personal reasons and I am only thinking about the final.”
“But I have not extended my contract. I saw that news came out but I do not know where it came from.”
Manchester United have also been linked with Leicester City defender Harry Maguire, Bayern’s Jerome Boateng and Yerry Mina who eventually joined Everton from Barcelona.
