Arsenal center-back Shkodran Mustafi has opened up about the ability of two legendary attackers in world football Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Germany international has claimed that he found it more difficult face Barcelona star Lionel Messi than Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Both attackers have won five Ballon d’Or awards each, while Ronaldo has one more Champions League trophy than his rival Messi.

However, Mustafi, who faced off against both strikers in the past, believes that Argentina international Messi is the tougher opponent than Portuguese superstar Ronaldo.

“Lionel Messi was my hardest opponent,” Mustafi told Bild. “I played him three times with Valencia. You cannot predict him, he is small and very quick, changes his direction quite often.”

“When he runs towards three opponents you can nearly be sure that he breaks through. Ronaldo is more of a striker in the box. Messi can also play good passes and make his teammates stronger. For me, he is the best player in the world.”

Mustafi, is not a part of Germany’s 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia, has mainly faced both opponents during his time at Valencia.
