Former Arsenal attacking midfielder Robert Pires has called on his former club to sign a high-quality midfielder from Manchester United.

The Gunners have recently appointed Spanish coach Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger replacement. And former France international Pires has urged them to bring Marouane Fellaini at the Emirates Stadium.

United midfielder has been strongly linked with away move from Old Trafford with the Belgian is looking for a regular football.

The former Everton star, whose contract at United runs out at the end of this month, will make a free transfer after the 2018 World Cup.

Fellaini has previously emerged as Galatasaray and Besiktas target but AC Milan and Arsenal have also expressed a strong interest in him in recent months.

“Everybody knows Marouane Fellaini in the Premier League,” the former French forward told Sky Sports.

“Of course last season it was very, very difficult, the relation with Jose Mourinho.”

“But I think he’s a good player, if he wants to join Arsenal I think it would be good news. He needs a new start and I think, with his quality. I think he can help Unai Emery and he can help the Arsenal players in the squad.”

Arsenal manager Emery has already completed his first signing at the Emirates Stadium as Swiss full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner joined on a free transfer.
