Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has claimed that the Gunners are struggling away from home as Arsene Wenger side fail to dig deep to get a result.
The North-London side’s quality of form had seriously degenerated this season as they lost 11 times including a recent 2-1 defeat to Newcastle last Sunday at St. James’ Park.
Therefore, the loss to Rafa Benitez’s side was their ninth away defeat in the campaign, which is one of the bad records they had in their history under French manager Wenger.
The Gunners will also have the problem to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford on 29 April, if not, the bad record will grow up.

“You cannot hide from Arsenal’s away results,” Keown told the Daily Mail. “They have been shocking.”
“Arsenal have not won a Premier League away game since December.”
“At home, Arsenal’s brilliant football gets them results but to be successful on the road you need to dig deep, pull together and play with a steeliness.”
“When they play away, there seems to be something missing.”
“The narrative is that Arsenal need to win the Europa League. But that does not mean a blind eye should be turned to what is happening in the Premier League.”
“Arsene Wenger will be most alarmed by Arsenal’s away form.”

The Emirates Stadium’s side still have a big mountain to climb as they have two big matches against Atletico Madrid in Europa League semi-final.
Meanwhile, Wenger need to win the Europa League to secure UEFA Champions League qualification next season.
