GUNNERS HOPE: Top 5 Most Successful teams in Europa League History- Can Arsenal WIN IT?

Arsenal thrashed AC Milan 2-0 at San Siro on Thursday night to make a giant step towards Europa League quarterfinals. The pundits and fans did not give them a chance after four straight defeats. The Gunners must win the tournament to have any chance of playing in UEFA Champions League next season. Manchester United finished sixth last season but thrashed Ajax 2-0 to lift the trophy and book a place in the Group Stage. Arsene Wenger will have to beat giants like Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund to take the trophy home. So, today, we want to look at teams that have been very successful in Europa League.

5. Tottenham Hotspur- 2 times


Arsenal fans will not like the fact that Tottenham Hotspurs have lifted Europa League twice. The North London giants won the European trophy in 1972 and 1984. The trophy was known as Uefa Cup then. The Gunners reached Champions League final in 2006 but lost to Barcelona.  Real Madrid is also in the group of double champions together with City rivals Atletico.

Other teams that have lifted the trophy two times include Borussia Mönchengladbach, Feyenoord, IFK Göteborg, Real Madrid, Parma, FC Porto, and Atlético Madrid.

4. Liverpool- 3 times


Five times Uefa Champions League winner Liverpool has also lifted Europa League thrice. They won it in 1973, 1976 and 2001. The Reds remain the most successful team in British history in Europe.

3. Inter Milan- 3 times


Serie A giants Inter Milan have lifted Europa League three times. They were champions in 1991, 1994 and 1998. City rivals AC Milan have lifted Uefa Champions League 7 times but when it comes to the second tier competition Inter rules. The two giants are in transition now but it is taking longer than expected due to ownership wrangles.
