Defender 1: Virgil van Dijk [Liverpool] – 12 Points
Liverpool thrashed Newcastle United 2-0 at Anfield last weekend to keep the pressure on Manchester United who occupies the second place. The win pushed them above the Red Devils but Nemanja Matic late winner dethroned them again on Monday night.
The goals were scored by Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane but Jurgen Klopp had special words for the World most expensive defender Virgil van Dijk. Klopp said; “Van Dijk is a good footballer, there was no doubt. Our other four center-halves are good footballers as well. It only helps. When you have a lot of possession, you need this kind of passing skills in defenders.
“His body language is brilliant, to be honest. He looks like a leader, like a warrior, already like a Liverpool player – that’s good news.
Other players in defender 1 category who got 2 points include; Gerrard Pique, Jerome Boateng, Ben Davies, Thiago Silva and Nicolas Otamendi.
Defender 2: Dani Alves [Paris Saint-Germain] – 14 Points
Paris Saint-Germain defender Dani Alves is 34-years-old but that does not mean he has slowed down. The Brazilian is still a regular in French Ligue 1. Last weekend he was unplayable in the 2-0 win against Troyes. The Brazilian leads the second defender category with 14 points. He was closely followed by Barcelona defender Jordi Alba.
Midfielder 1: Sadio Mane [Liverpool] – 18 Points
Liverpool star Sadio Mane is back on form after a poor start to the season. The Senegalese international netted the killer goal against Newcastle United last weekend to secure the points for Jurgen Klopp side. The attacking midfielder leads Midfielder 1 category with 18 points. Others stars with similar points include Real Madrid and PSG stars Gareth Bale and Angel Di Maria.
Midfielder 2: Mohamed Salah [Liverpool] -20 Points
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is taking down one record after another since he arrived from AS Roma last summer. He has now become the fastest player in the club history to score 20 plus goals. In fact, he has 32 goals in 38 matches in all competitions. Last weekend, he netted one goal in the 2-0 win against Newcastle United. He leads category two of midfielders with 20 points, 6 ahead of closest challenger Julian Draxler of PSG.
Striker: Cristiano Ronaldo [Real Madrid] – 22 Points
Cristiano Ronaldo is back to his best and no defense wants to face him in Europe. Last weekend he netted two goals against Getafe at Santiago Bernabeu. On Tuesday, he scored a crucial goal to knock out PSG in UEFA Champions League. He has now netted 31 goals in 33 matches so far this season. The goals he netted last weekend put him on top of striker category with 22 points. The closest challenger was Manchester United striker Rumelu Lukaku with 16 points.
