3. Guardiola visited Wenger’s house as “he wanted to play for Arsenal”
The list of players who nearly signed for Arsenal is full of even more highly acclaimed footballers. The likes of Gerard Pique, Yaya Toure, Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, etc. And Wenger has now revealed the name of another superstar who almost joined the Gunners; Pep Guardiola.
In an interview with BeIN Sport, Wenger said “I talked to him a few times, and once he came to my house when he was a player, because he wanted to play for Arsenal.” Wenger did not take Guardiola’s offer though.
Guardiola then went on to play for Brescia, Roma, Al-Ahli and Dorados after he left Barcelona in 2001.
2. Arsenal and Tottenham to be offered Bordeaux star Malcom
ARSENAL and Tottenham are set to be offered Bordeaux star Malcom in the summer transfer window, as the winger has revealed he wants to leave the club. Both North London clubs were chasing the 20-year-old Brazilian but were put off by the sky-high £45million valuation.
Arsenal went for plan B instead and opted to bring in Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez, while Spurs turned to PSG outcast Lucas Moura in a £25m deal. But now the plan A is back on track, both teams must be preparing for bids.
“I will choose the team, and Bordeaux will let me go.” The Brazilian revealed.
1. Marco Asensio confuses Real Madrid fans with celebrations
The youngster netted the opening goal of the game at the Benito Villamarin. Asensio then struck again to regain Madrid’s lead as they held off a stubborn Real Betis side 5-3. But the way the 21-year-old celebrated both his goals left supporters curious.
Asensio headed home his first and looked towards the Madrid bench and pretended to shave his head. Asensio pointed to a member of his squad, laughing, while he was miming the act.
The second of Asensio’s goals excited Arsenal fans. After striking low past Betis stopper Antonio Adan, the player then performed the “flute celebration” which is a trademark of Gunners forward Alexandre Lacazette.
