4. Jose Mourinho explains why Paul Pogba was substituted
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that Paul Pogba’s substitution in his side’s 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United was not an injury problem.
Pogba was replaced by Michael Carrick in the 66th minute just one minute after Matt Ritchie’s winner.
“No problems,” Mourinho told Sky Sports News when asked if Pogba had an injury. “I wanted a better way to come out in the first phase against a team that was defending in a very compact block.”
“I was trying that with the simplicity of Michael Carrick because he tries to make everything simple and bring Alexis [Sanchez] close to an area to [Romelu] Lukaku where he could be like a second striker to try to win the game.”
The Red Devils are currently the second in the Premier League table with 16 points behind leaders Man City.
Manchester United are reportedly planning to sign Real Madrid star Isco ahead of their local rivals Manchester City.
The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under manager Zinedine Zidane at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Therefore, the Spaniard is looking for a new challenge at the end of the season.
According to the M.E.N., Jose Mourinho is reportedly planning to snap up the playmaker from under the noses of Manchester City in the summer.
