4. “Aubameyang arrival hurt Lacazette’s confidence” – Wenger
Despite becoming the Gunners’ record signing during the summer, the former Lyon striker now finds himself down the pecking order in north London. Wenger suggests that he could be suffering from a crisis in confidence after the arrival of fellow striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Frenchman was immediately dropped to the bench following the arrival of Aubameyang, and was only introduced in the 65th minute against Tottenham on Saturday. And after the match, Wenger admitted that Lacazette was going through a “difficult period”.
“It can happen, it is a fraction of a second. Maybe the confidence is not at its highest because he has seen a competitor coming in for him.” The veteran French coach explained.
3. Wenger will field full-strength Arsenal XI in Europa League
Arsene Wenger has vowed to play a full-strength side against Ostersunds on Thursday as Arsenal target a place in the Europa League last 16.
Wenger has played a weakened team in Europe’s second tier competition this term; but will abandon that policy in Sweden this week as Arsenal do not have a weekend game after being knocked out of the FA Cup at Nottingham Forest.
“I will play the normal team because it’s one of the opportunities we have, especially because we don’t play in the [FA Cup] this season,” he said. “There’s no reason why I should rest players.”
