The former Liverpool captain names Antonio Conte’s biggest mistake at Chelsea. Luis Enrique agrees to replace Antonio Conte at Chelsea under one condition.
Many reasons have been put described for Conte’s problems, but the trigger error was made last summer, according to Redknapp. The former Liverpool captain has described that Antonio Conte’s decision to sell Diego Costa was his ‘Biggest Mistake’ at Chelsea. Redknapp believes Conte was wrong to force the last season top scorer out of the club.
“The biggest mistake Antonio Conte made was getting rid of Diego Costa,” Jamie Redknapp told the Daily Mail. “With the Spain striker, Chelsea were a horrible, aggressive team to play against. They would use every trick in the book to win matches. You could not bully Costa but without him, this Chelsea team are too nice. They have lost not only their edge but also their ruthlessness in front of goal. After a bright start, striker Alvaro Morata has struggled. And Chelsea have scored nine fewer goals than at the same stage last season.”
He continued: “Think back to that string of stalemates at the turn of the year. Those could have been avoided with a forward like Costa, who specialized in grabbing those crucial goals in tight games. ‘I understand Conte’s reasoning. He may have found the striker awkward and difficult to deal with but part of being a great manager is being able to handle those egos.”
According to Don Balon, Chelsea want to land Marco Asensio as a part of the deal with Eden Hazard. The Premier League champions are also plotting a move for the Spanish youngster even if Hazard stays. They are willing to pay £119 million for his services should the club move for the 22-year-old in a stand-alone deal.
Former Real Madrid team-mate Alvaro Morata is one of the reasons for Asensio to join Stamford Bridge. But the Blancos president Florentino Perez is not prepared to let the 22-year-old leave. Asensio has only started nine times in La Liga this season so far, with Real Madrid sitting 19 points behind runaway leaders Barcelona.
