3. Zidane forced to explain Ronaldo shocking substitution

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has been forced to explain why he substituted star player Cristiano Ronaldo. The five times World Player of the year was replaced in the 81st minute but his boss says it was all planned.

“No. It was planned to change him, and that’s all.

“We had the game under control; the most difficult is to score goals. We got to 2-1, but in the end, two mistakes cost us the two goals.

“This year is being difficult for us. We cannot put three or four results together. I am not happy with the result. We were in control of the game, above all the first half, so not happy, of course.”

The La Liga defending Champions are 18 points behind leaders Barcelona. They are now fighting to finish in Champions League places. Atletico Madrid is nine points ahead of Valencia who is one point better than the Los Blancos.

2. Iniesta defend Pique after a controversial goal celebration

Barcelona captain Andreas Iniesta has defended Gerrard Pique utterances and celebration towards Sunday opponents Espanyol. The Catalan defender called the club “Espanyol de Cornella” rather than Espanyol de Barcelona which is literally degrading. The Spaniard went on to score the equalizer on Sunday at RCDE Stadium. His celebration sparked a bitter reaction from the fans.

“These things happen in derby matches,” Iniesta said.

“I don’t know the exact gesture that Pique made. I hope everything is very calm.

“We had a point and we were still pushing up. We couldn’t get all three points. The conditions weren’t as bad for them as they were for us.

“I wouldn’t say it was difficult for us to adapt to the pitch. I think we played a great game. We put in a big effort and were able to rescue ourselves and avoid a 1-0 defeat.”
