3. Iniesta and Coutinho can play together despite poor show on his La Liga debut – Valverde
Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has said he believes Andres Iniesta and new signing Philippe Coutinho can play together. The Brazilian was given his full debut on Sunday against Alaves but he struggled to get going. The coach substituted him in the 65th minute to bring on Paco Alcacer to add more threat in the game.
“Coutinho has to get used to what his team-mates have been doing this season,” he said.
“He will have defensive duties, of course, even though he has more of an attacking profile than Iniesta.”
“They are different players, but they can complement each other perfectly on the pitch. Iniesta is more of a midfielder. Coutinho is more offensive, he takes on shots from distance and he can play wide or through the middle… but he also has to fit in with what we are doing.”
Luis Suarez praised his new teammate after the match saying it is difficult to make your debut at Camp Nou.
“It’s difficult to debut in the Camp Nou in the league,” Suarez said.
“Philippe was very good. He did very well try to drive in the game and the team is happy with his contribution.”
2. Tevez explains the BIGGEST difference between Messi and Ronaldo
Boca Juniors striker Carlos Tevez is among the few players in the World who have been lucky enough to play alongside both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The Argentine forward is, therefore, able to tell the difference between the two stars. He won all trophies with CR7 during their time at Manchester United and he plays together with the Barcelona star in the national team. He believes his compatriot talent comes more naturally as compared to the Portuguese hard work in the gym.
“Cristiano is totally different to Messi,” Tevez told ESPN.
“When Leo was starting out, he didn’t touch a gym. But Cristiano was there in the morning, afternoon and evening, all the time.
“Cristiano had to work and prepare himself to be the best, while for Leo it comes naturally.
“Those are the greatest differences that I see between the two best players on the planet.
“Messi plays another sport.
“For Messi to score three goals [in any given game] is normal.”
The two players have lifted 10 Ballon d’Or awards between them since Kaka won it in 2007. It is expected to continue for few more seasons before anybody else breaks their dominance.
