5. Didier Drogba- €35.97 Million


Chelsea signed Didier Drogba from Marseille in 2004 for a club record €35.97 Million. The Ivorian went on to help the club enjoy the most successful period in history. The Blues legend scored 164 goals in 381 appearances over two spells. He finished his first spell with a trophy everybody associated with the club was dreaming that is the Champions League crown defeating Bayern Munich on post-match penalties. In his second spell, he helped the team to lift one more league title and a League Cup. He is a true Blues legend.

4. Michael Essien- €38 Million


Jose Mourinho paid French giants Lyon €38 Million to secure the services of Ghana midfielder Michael Essien. The powerful player would go on to help the club win more trophies in a period of eight years at Stamford Bridge. Many will remember him for scoring a screamer against Barcelona in Champions League semi-final. He currently plays for Greek giants Panathinaikos.

3. Sadio Mane- €40.81 (£35million)


Senegal International attacking midfielder Sadio Mane is 3rd most expensive African footballer of all time. Liverpool coughed out £35million or €40.81 Million last summer to sign the star from Southampton.

The 24-year-old scored 25 goals in 75 appearances for Saints in two seasons to earn himself a mega deal to Anfield. He is a very hardworking player who will make things happen even when the game is very tough.

2. Mohamed Salah- €44 Million (£39 million)


Liverpool signed Mohamed Salah from AS Roma last summer for €44 Million or £39 million. The Egyptian broke the Club record held by former striker Andy Carroll. The English striker arrived in January 2011 from Newcastle United to replace Fernando Torres. The 25-year-old became most expensive African Player of all time but now Cedric Bakambu has broken his record. The winger has been one of the best signings in the Premier League so far with 17 League goals in 21 matches.

1. Cedric Bakambu- £65m (Villareal to Beijing Guoan)

Congolese International striker Cedric Bakambu has now become the most expensive African player of all time. Beijing Guoan has paid £35m to activate his release clause at Villareal. The Chinese Super League Club will also pay £30m the country FA as an extra tax for foreign signing introduced in 2017.

The striker has netted 48 goals in 105 matches for the La Liga side since he joined in 2015. He completed his medical on Thursday and the deal is expected to be signed today. The DRC international was a top target for Tottenham, West Ham, Newcastle and West Brom but he chose China. He will earn £16m-a-year.
