UEFA Champions League is set to return to our screen in February. The last 16 teams will face each other to decide who makes it to the last eight. We all can’t wait to see Chelsea welcome Barcelona at Stamford Bridge in the first leg. Tottenham against Juventus is another top clash but the titanic battle will be between defending Champions Real Madrid and PSG. Today, we want to take a look at goalkeepers with most saves so far in the competition.
5. Silvio Proto- 24 saves (Olympiacos)
Olympiacos shot-stopper Silvio Proto made 24 saves in the Group stages to try and help his team reach the last 16 of the Champions League. However, the rest of the team did not do enough because they could only manage a single point. This means they could not even make it to Europa League. It was always going to be hard when you find yourself in the same Group with Barcelona and Juventus.
4. Andriy Pyatov- 25 saves (Shakhtar Donetsk)
Shakhtar Donetsk shocked everybody when they thrashed Manchester City in the last Group game to finish second in what many called the Group of death. Serie A fans and indeed many globally expected to see Napoli finishing second but it was the Ukrainian side that wanted it more. Andriy Pyatov made a total of 25 points to make sure that his team reaches the last 16. He will need to do better when his side faces AS Roma in February.
3. Igor Akinfeev- 29 saves (CSKA Moscow)
CSKA Moscow is one of the few teams who will feel they deserved to be in the last 16. They finished third to drop to Europa League but they were just unfortunate to play Manchester United in their last Group game. The Russian side will be a serious challenger in the second tier competition. Igor Akinfeev 29 saves show they have what it takes to go far in Europe.
