Who will be 2017 Ballon d’Or winner? Is it Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi? Is it Real Madrid maestro Cristiano Ronaldo? Or will be another one else from La Liga or from any other league all over the world?

Many have already tipped Ronaldo to win it, but they might be wrong because there are other 2 players (Messi and Neymar) who were nominated and are still eligible to win it.

Now let’s take a look at 5 reasons why Barcelona forward should win the 2016 Ballon d’Or.

5. He helped Argentina to qualify for the 2018 World Cup

Many would consider not winning the Copa Centenario as a failure in Messi’s career, but there is another way of looking at it. The 30-year-old played an important role in qualifying Argentina for the 2018 World Cup.

Messi still managed to bag 4 goals in seven caps. It was a long journey for them as it was the big mountain to climb, but they made it.

4. He won one of the spanish domestic titles 2016-17

Even though Barcelona didn’t win a plenty of titles last season, but they continued their incredible dominance in the Spanish game by winning the Copa del Rey under Luis Enrique. And Messi has contributed a lot along with Neymar and Luis Suarez.

3. The forward’s consistency in 2016-17 and 2017-18

Lionel Messi is in the race to win the 2017 Ballon d’Or. Barcelona’s Argentine crack has started the season on another level (goals, assists, spectacle) and is threatening to catch up with the favourite for the award, Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi has the right to fight for the prize which, if he won it, would be the sixth time.

Since the start of this season, the Argentina international’s consistency of performances is incredible.

Messi has gone past his rival this season in terms of numbers as he managed to score 16 goals in both La Liga and Champions League. He also provided 5 assists in 18 games he played in both competitions.

While Ronaldo has dipped in his form at the start of this campaign and hasn’t been near his best so far.

He played 16 matches in both La Liga and Champions League, but he scored only 11 goals and 3 assists.
