3. Liverpool reach last 16 as Group Winners in style

Liverpool reached UEFA Champions League last 16 in style on Wednesday night. The Reds thrashed Spartak Moscow 7-0 at Anfield to top Group E with 12 points. Sevilla finished second with nine points after beating bottom side Maribor. The Russians did not leave empty handed because finishing third means they drop to the last 32 in Europa League.

Jurgen Klopp will be happy with his boys after another dominant display. They have now scored 12 goals in two matches this week. Last weekend they thrashed Brighton 5-0 away from home. Philippe Coutinho netted a hat-trick and Sadio Mane went home with a brace. Roberto Firmino and goal machine Mohamed Salah also scored. It was a perfect way to reach the last 16 given the kind of defensive problems they have faced in the competition. It was also a great way to prepare for the weekend derby against Everton.

2. Manchester City Finally lose their first match this season

Manchester City suffered their first defeat this season in the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk. Pep Guardiola rested all the top stars except Leroy Sane, Fernadinho, Ederson and Gabriel Jesus. The hosts scored two quick goals in the first half via Bernard and Ismaily.

The Premier League side will play Manchester United at Old Trafford this weekend. This means that given they had already qualified with 12 points, there was a need to rest players. Sergio Aguero came on late in the game to score a penalty after Jesus was brought down in the box.

The Ukranian win means they finished second in Group F with 12 points. The biggest shock was Napoli losing 2-1 to Dutch side Feyenoord to finish third. They were expected to reach the last 16 but now they will join Atletico Madrid and CSKA Moscow in Europa League.
