3. Frank Lampard accuses Chelsea star of ‘sleeping’ against Atletico Madrid
The visitors who took the lead in the 56th minute when Saul Niguez escaped the attention of Bakayoko and headed home from a corner. However, Chelsea managed to avoid defeat when Eden Hazard’s shot was deflected in by Stefan Savic in the 76th minute at Stamford Bridge. Due to those results, Chelsea could face the likes of Paris Saint-Germain or Barcelona in the knockout phase.
Speaking to BT Sport after the final whistle, Lampard said: “His body shape’s wrong in the first place. He needs to open his body so he can see the run of Saul Niguez behind him. And then he sleeps. The concentration goes and at this level, you sleep for a second… and it was an easy goal for Atletico.”
Chelsea will learn their opponents for the last 16 of the Champions League when the draw is made in Nyon on 11 December. In the meantime, the Blues will now switch their attention back towards Premier League affairs. Prepare for t the clash against London rivals West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday.
At this moment in time, few players in the world are playing better football than Chelsea’s Eden Hazard. Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kevin de Bruyne may be the only rivals. But it wouldn’t be a foolish assessment to say that Blues winger has been outdoing the trio in recent weeks. He has looked frighteningly good, scoring goals, terrorizing defenses and creating chances for his teammates.
So, given his ridiculous form, BT Sports presenter Gary Lineker thought it would be the correct time to ask Rio Ferdinand – one of the game’s finest defenders – whether he enjoyed facing Hazard. “I DIDN’T,” Rio answered. “I still remember, I still get nightmares! […] I’m happy was on the left side. He didn’t really come into my area, which is a blessing really. […] He’s fantastic to watch and he’s the man who really makes this Chelsea team take.
As Ferdinand says, he was slightly fortunate that the Belgian was more confined to the wide areas under Jose Mourinho and didn’t terrorize the center-backs as often as he does now.
Tiemoue Bakayoko seems to be going through a rough patch on the pitch, just five months after signing for Chelsea from Monaco. Last night, the Blues got a draw against Atletico. Chelsea fans have responded to their team’s failure to secure the top spot in Group C with both mild rage and hopeful reflection.
After the match, fans took to Twitter to deliver their verdicts, and Bakayoko was on the receiving end of some criticism.
Seriously Bakayoko needs to buck up…This is Chelsea not Monaco if has not realised. And this is how we’re gonna miss chances against our next opponent,we are out…We are not bad but we need to be more clinical upfront in big games…#cfc
