4. Man United and Chelsea book their place in the last 16
Manchester United booked their place in the last 16 with 65 seconds double. The Red Devils were shocked to go down 1-0 at the stroke of halftime despite dominating the game. They emerged from the dressing room with a renewed vigor and they did the job to top their group.
Jose Mourinho will be pleased to see Romelu Lukaku score after a bad drought. The second goal was scored less than 30 seconds later by his strike partner Marcus Rashford. The win means the Premier League side progress as Group winners with 15 points followed by Basel with 12 points. The Switzerland side defeated Benfica 2-0 in Portugal.
3. Lampard criticize Bakayoko for sleeping on the pitch
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has criticized Tiemoue Bakayoko for sleeping on the job allowing Saul Niguez to score an easy goal on Tuesday night. The goal might be costly for the Blues because it means they might draw PSG or Barcelona in the last 16. He believes the 23-year-old French midfielder must improve to play at the highest level.
‘He sleeps,’ said Lampard.
‘His concentration goes and at this level, if you sleep for a second and it’s an easy goal for Atletico.’
‘I don’t know with Bakayoko. I think it’s well documented that he hasn’t settled quickly at Chelsea and English football in the Premier League as well and he has to come to grips with that.
‘A moment’s sleeping today doesn’t work so he needs to improve but he’s [Antonio Conte] got options. [Danny] Drinkwater will play as well but hopefully, Bakayoko will improve.’
However, the former England midfielder believes Antonio Conte should not fear drawing anybody in the next round.
‘Obviously PSG, we’re all talking about them and Barcelona, we all know what they have to offer. Chelsea fans will realistically look at Besiktas but it’s a draw so who knows and again who knows where all these different teams are.
‘Even if Chelsea do draw one of the bigger teams then what a game and if you’re going to win this competition you have to beat the big boys.’
