5. Chelsea target may have already agreed on January move
Everton manager Sam Allardyce wants to keep Ross Barkley at the club for the rest of the season. But he believes the Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur target may already have an agreement in place to leave in January.
Allardyce told Sky Sports: “I’d like to think we can keep Barkley unless someone has already done a deal for him. I am not daft enough to know in this game that those words and phone calls might not have already gone on. If we could get Ross Barkley to stay, then nobody would be more delighted than me. Whether that is a possibility I do not know.”
“For me, it is about getting him back in the squad first and seeing where we are from there.” He concluded. Barkley turned down Everton’s offer of a new deal in July and an exit in the winter window appears inevitable despite the arrival of Allardyce on Merseyside.
4. Rafael Benitez makes ‘obvious’ prediction about Chelsea in title race
Former Chelsea boss, currently Newcastle manager, Benitez backed the title holders to challenge Manchester City and Manchester United for the top-flight crown. He said this after losing against the defending champions last weekend at Stamford Bridge.
“They have a very good team and they have to compete for the title, it’s obvious they are one of the teams who will be in the top three,” Benitez told BBC Sport.
3. Conte sends message to Chelsea supporters about Man City in title race
Chelsea boss, Antonio Conte, is refusing to concede defeat in the Premier League title race. Chelsea has already lost to Burnley, Crystal Palace, and Manchester City to leave Conte’s men with an uphill task in the title race.
However, the Blues have won six of their last seven Premier League games. With a 1-1 draw at top-four rivals Liverpool FC the one blotch on their record. Antonio Conte’s men are currently third in the table, 11 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City. This gap could be reduced next weekend if Manchester United take points off City in the derby at Old Trafford.
Speaking to BBC Sport about Chelsea’s title prospects following a 3-1 win over Newcastle, Conte said: “I’m happy but in this league, there is a team doing extraordinary things, Man City. At the same time, it’s important to look at ourselves and go step by step.
