Premier League match-day 15 is now fully behind us. The weekend started off on the right note for Chelsea fans with a well-deserved victory against Newcastle United. Liverpool and Everton won their matches ahead of the Merseyside Derby next weekend. Manchester United pulled off a miraculous win against Arsenal to book a date against bitter rivals City at Old Trafford next weekend. Today, we want to take a look at eleven best performers (Team of the week) in the league last weekend.
David De Gea- Manchester United
Manchester United thrashed Arsenal 3-1 at Emirates Stadium on Saturday to stay close to League leaders Manchester City. However, the scoreline only tells part of the story. The hosts had 33 shots on goal and 14 of them were on target.
Red Devils goalkeeper David De Gea stopped everything thrown to him on the day. He made some crazy stops to deny the Gunners. The Spaniard made 14 saves, which is joint-most in the League in the last 14 years. He has claimed his position on top of the World. He is truly world class. Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger praised him too.
Andreas Christensen- Chelsea
David Luiz might have to forget playing regularly at Chelsea because Andreas Christensen is showing just how capable he is in the role. The Denmark International had a great game against Newcastle United this weekend. He saw his effort hit the post to deny him his first goal for the club.
Antonio Valencia- Manchester United
Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia opened the scoring at Emirates against Arsenal. The full-back intercepted a pass deep into the Gunners half and he finished perfectly under pressure. The hosts had a calamitous start at the back and Mustafi paid for it a few minutes later. The Ecuadorian has improved under Jose Mourinho and the same can be said about Lingard and Young.
Ashley Williams- Everton
Everton is back and that just means their players start getting recognized for their effort. The Toffees welcomed new boss Sam Allardyce with a 2-0 win against Huddersfield. The valuable second consecutive win takes them to position 10 with 18 points. They are out of the woods and Ashley Williams must be praised for completing 13 clearances last weekend to deny the opponents.
Ryan Shawcross- Stoke City
Mark Hughes is one of those few Premier League managers still hanging in there despite a mixed start this season. Swansea boss Paul Clement will obviously be the next on the chopping board but that is a topic for another day.
Stoke City managed to collect a valuable 3 points at home on Saturday against bottom side Swansea City. Wilfred Bony opened the scoring for the visitors but Shaqiri made it 1-1. Biram Diouf scored a great goal to seal the points. Ryan Shawcross had a great match too with 12 clearances to deny a hardworking Welsh side.
David Silva- Manchester City
Manchester City came from a goal down to win 2-1 at home against West Ham United. The Hammers were leading at halftime but Pep Guardiola did what he has done on so many occasions this season. He inspired his team at the break and they came back to win 2-1. David Silva not only scored the winner but also created most chances in the match.
Eden Hazard- Chelsea
Chelsea clicks when Eden Hazard is on form. The Belgian is back to his best and Newcastle United players will know that by now. He had nine shots on target against the Magpies on Saturday and two of them were goals. He took a near panenka penalty to make it 3-1. He has to stay fit if the Blues want to challenge on all fronts this season.
