La Liga is certainly the home of records. The records don’t really belong to the entire league because only two giants feature in the top seven. They raise their own revenue unlike in the Premier League where all clubs are equal. This gives them a massive financial muscle in the market.

Today, we take a closer look at some of the most expensive stars in La Liga history;

8. Kaka- €68m

AC Milan to Real Madrid- 2008

In the year 2008, Brazilian star Kaka was on his way to Real Madrid for €68m. In 2007 we all can recall the kind of torment he caused Manchester United defenders at Old Trafford. Rio will not like to be reminded about these. That must have been the day Fiorentina Perez made his mind. He also won the coveted award Ballon d’Or in the same year.

His career at Santiago Bernabeu did not go according to plan. He struggled with playtime and recurrent injuries. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo for a record fee and Jose Mourinho made his life in Madrid capital unbearable. He returned to San Siro on loan but it was quite evident his best was certainly behind him. He only scored 29 goals in 120 appearances in Spain.

7. Zinedine Zidane: €75M

Juventus to Real Madrid- 2001

When you talk of Zinedine Zidane, you are speaking of a special player. In 2001, a time when players were not that expensive, Real Madrid paid €75M to sign him. He was so good that when he played, his class was enough to mesmerize your soul, body, and mind. Head to YouTube and take a look at his best clips. Am sure you will receive football baptism.

We all remember that goal against Bayer Leverkusen in 2002 Champions League final. Who can forget that he was a class player and the hierarchy at Santiago Bernabeu knew it? They retained him, he coached the junior side Real Madrid Castillo. Then when the time came they made him the big boss. He helped the Los Blancos thrash Atletico Madrid in May last year to lift 11th European title.

President Fiorentina Perez had seen enough He headed straight to Monaco to see the bosses. In a few weeks, the deal was done and James Rodriguez dream of playing for the Galacticos came true. He was not going to sign for cheap, Madrid paid €79.8M for him. Things have not worked out so well for him as compared to Suarez but unlike the Barca striker who is 29, he is 25. He has since moved to Bayern Munich on a two-year loan deal.

5. Luis Suarez: €81.7M

Liverpool to Barcelona- 2014

In 2014, both Clubs were out shopping again. This time, it was to add firepower to their respective clubs to conquer Europe. Barcelona saw a wonderful opportunity after Luis Suarez biting scandal in 2014 Brazil World Cup. They took full advantage of the negative media coverage in England to pounce.

They convinced the prolific but controversial striker to join them. He was the top scorer in Premier League the season before and he was obviously going to score more in Spain. He has now scored 109 goals in 129 appearances.

4. Neymar: €86.2M

Santos to Barcelona- 2013

The same year Real Madrid splashed €100.8M to sign Gareth Bale. Barcelona could not allow the Capital Club to outshine them. They rushed to the nearest bank and came out with €86.2 M to land Santos forward Neymar. However, last summer, the Brazilian switched to PSG in a World record deal worth €222M.

The former Sporting Lisbon star had won all trophies available in Club level in a span of six years at Old Trafford. He was seeking a new challenge. He was also awarded the coveted FIFA Ballon d’Or in 2008 after helping his side beat Chelsea in Uefa Champions League final. It was a great investment by Madrid because the Portuguese have helped them win 3 Champions League titles, 1 Copa del Rey, 2 La Liga, 2 Super Cups and Spanish Super Cup among others.
