4. Zlatan Ibrahimovic return will revive our title hopes – Lukaku

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has insisted that the impending return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic will provide a huge boost to his side’s Premier League title hopes.

The 36-year-old has not played a single minute for the Red Devils since signing a contract extension in the summer.

The Swedish continues to work his way back to fitness after sustaining a serious knee injury in April.

Former Barcelona and PSG star Ibrahimovic is expected to return to the field before the end of the year.

Asked about the impact he expects his teammate to have, Lukaku told Sky Sports News: “Ibrahimovic coming back will help us chase Manchester City.”

“When you face a team like us it’s difficult for opponents. It motivates me really because he’s another good player to add to the squad.”

United currently trail leaders Manchester City by eight points after 11 rounds of fixtures.

3. I am not injury-prone – Phil Jones

Manchester United midfielder Phil Jones has hit back at his critics by insisting that he is not injury-prone after hobbling off the pitch in England’s meeting with Germany.

The 25-year-old became the eighth player to withdraw from the Three Lions’ squad ahead of the midweek friendly with Brazil due to a thigh complaint.

Jones was forced to return to Old Trafford for further treatment.

Jones told reporters: “That wasn’t an injury, I just rolled my ankle a little – but that’s what I mean. It’s a fine line. People think you’re injured. I’m not injured, I’m just carrying a little niggle.”

“But people think, ‘Oh he’s injured, he’s got an ankle problem’. It doesn’t mean you’re injured, you’re managing it for the next game. Injuries get misinterpreted. I could give you a list of 40 Premier League players who’ve had far more injuries than me and nobody talks about them.”

“Maybe that’s because I play for United and that’s the way it is. But I’ve never seen myself as that. My wife is always saying I’m clumsy but that’s little stuff around the house. I two-foot her in the kitchen!”

The severity of Jones’s latest knock is unknown. But he is understood to be doubtful for United’s league clash against Newcastle United next weekend.

2. Lukaku blasted United teammates following defeat to Chelsea

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku reportedly blasted his teammates following last Sunday’s defeat to Premier League champions Chelsea.

Belgian international Lukaku failed to score for the seventh successive game following his blistering start at the Old Trafford club.

Opposite number Alvaro Morata sealed the win for the Blues with a header and according to The Sun, Lukaku was left angry following the result.

The 24-year-old joined Manchester United for £75m in the summer and made his first return to Stamford Bridge since leaving the Blues for Everton in a £28m deal.

Lukaku did score twice, however, in Belgium’s 3-3 draw with Mexico in an international friendly on Friday.

1. Jose Mourinho to make Marco Asensio marquee signing

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly hoping to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid in a £177m deal ahead of next season.

The Red Devils boss is said to have been told by Red Devils chiefs that he will be financially backed once again next summer.

Mourinho has also spent big to bring in Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof in the summer.

Asensio has been linked with a move to United in the past. But his hefty asking price is understood to have put the Premier League giants off making a formal approach for the time being.

However, Spanish outlet Don Balon suggests that Mourinho has already reached out to the 21-year-old.

The report also claims that Asensio will be persuaded to leave the Bernabeu with a five-year contract worth £24m-a-season in wages.
