Game 11: Premier League Team of the Week- Morata leads

Premier League game 11 is done and dusted. Manchester City has extended their lead at the top to 8 points. Manchester United were clawed back again by defending Champions Chelsea. Arsenal miracle failed to materialize at Etihad and Liverpool is now back to winning ways after a shock demolition by Tottenham a few weeks ago. Let us take a look at 11 players who stood out this weekend. Morata leads the team.

System: 3-4-3

Goalkeeper

David De Gea- Manchester United

David De Gea made eight saves against Chelsea to deny them a second goal. The Blues had a total of 18 shots and 8 of them were on target. The goalkeeper once again kept the Red Devils in the clash but the forwards failed to do their job to rescue a point for the team. He walks into the team with no opposition.

Defenders

Cesar Azpilicueta- Chelsea

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta had another great performance against Manchester United. The Spaniard assisted Alvaro Morata winning goal. He also made five important tackles to deny the Red Devils a chance to reach the Blues half.

Shane Duffy- Brighton

Brighton fans will certainly enjoy the international break after another great weekend. The newly-promoted side continues to silence the critics. This weekend, they pulled off a great performance at Liberty Stadium against Swansea City to go home with all three points.

Chris Hughton side is now 8th in the table with 15 points, four points behind Arsenal and Liverpool. The former Newcastle United boss will reserve special praise for Shane Duffy. The defender made 10 clearances in the match to make sure his side collect all three points.

Phil Jones- Manchester United

Manchester United had another day to forget at Stamford Bridge. The Red Devils struggled all day and Jose Mourinho knows it. They lost 1-0 to remain 8 points behind bitter rivals Manchester City who thrashed Arsenal 3-1 earlier in the day.

There will little to pick from that defeat for the ‘Special One’ but Phil Jones performance need to be recognized. The England International did very well against the likes of Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard. The team was exposed when he was substituted. Bailly and Smalling were not in sync and they were lucky David De Gea was there to rescue them.

Midfielders

N’Golo Kante- Chelsea

There are other defensive midfielders who had a better weekend. However, Chelsea central midfielder N’Golo Kante had a great day yet again against Manchester United. He features in the team because he outplayed Ander Herrera despite the fact that it was his first match in almost three weeks. He was out nursing a hamstring injury he suffered playing for France. He did well in a tough match.

Xherdan Shaqiri- Stoke City

Mark Hughes will not be happy with a point against Leicester City at home. However, the Coach will be happy with the way his side fought their way back in the match after going down 2-1. He will certainly reserve special praise for Xherdan Shaqiri. He scored and assisted Peter Crouch for the second to go home with a point. They are now 14th on the table with 12 points.

Rajiv Van La Parra- Huddersfield

Huddersfield mission to survive is looking good so far. They are currently in 10th place with 15 points. The newly-promoted side managed to beat West Brom 1-0 this weekend. The goal was scored by Rajiv Van La Parra with his only shot on target. The fans and everybody connected to the club will be very happy with the progress so far.

Kevin De Bruyne- Manchester City

Manchester City thrashed Arsenal 3-1 at home to take their lead at the top to eight points. Manchester United 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge makes City win even sweeter. Pep Guardiola has certainly transformed the team and the results are there for all to see.

The match at Etihad had its own controversies. However, Kevin De Bruyne performance once again is not in question. He netted to open the floodgates early in first half. He had two shots on target and also created 2 other chances. It was the best return by any player on the pitch.

Forwards

Oumar Niasse- Everton

Everton came from behind to beat Watford 3-2 at Goodison Park to lift them off the bottom three. The Toffees needed that win to get back to winning ways after a poor start to the season. Ronald Koeman has sacked two weeks ago after a poor run of results.

The fans will remember Leighton Baines 90th minute penalty but the man who started the comeback is Oumar Niasse. He scored the crucial goal to help his side get the fans behind them and it finally paid off. They are now in position 15 with 11 points.

Alvaro Morata- Chelsea

Chelsea did what they have done over the years every time they hear Manchester United is in town. The Blues had lost only one match out of 15 and on Sunday they made it 16. The Red Devils record at Stamford Bridge is terrible since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson. However, the defeat leaves them 8 points behind Manchester City in the title race.

The only goal of the match was scored by new arrival Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard was close to joining Jose Mourinho side last summer and the same can be said about his opposite striker Romelu Lukaku. The former Real Madrid attacker had a great performance on Sunday. He also had 10 touches in opposition half as compared to the Belgian who had none.

Mohamed Salah- Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has done several great things since he took over the job at Liverpool. The best thing he has done so far was the decision to sign Mohamed Salah. The ‘Egyptian Messi’ has been a massive success since he arrived from AS Roma.

On Saturday, he netted 2 goals to silence the Hammers at their own turf. He also created three chances to make sure the Reds emerged 4-1 winners. The goals take his tally to six goals in the League and 12 in all competitions. The return of Sadio Mane only means more goals for the Reds.
