3. Zidane blame ‘Bad Day’ for Girona defeat
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has said his team just had a bad day in office on Sunday. The Los Blancos lost 2-1 to Catalonian side Girona to remain 8 points behind rivals Barcelona. The Frenchman who won FIFA Coach of the Year last week said his team just had a bad day.
“We lost three points today, unexpectedly, but that does not change anything,” Zidane said.
“We know we can turn this around, we will have better days, and the other teams will drop points too over the season. We want to win La Liga, it is our day today. There is still a very long way to go, so I am not worried.”
Casemiro was quoted saying the team did not play well but his boss does not believe so.
“I do not agree that we played badly today,” Zidane said.
“All the players made an effort. Then there were details, the rival’s first goal came from a throw-in and we lost concentration and did not defend well. The second goal, the same, with a rebound. We ran until the end. It was not a lack of effort.”
“My feeling is that we had chances to get a second goal,” he said.
“When you are 1-0 up at half-time, you must think the rival can hurt you in the second half. We lacked a bit of concentration, and they played well, direct, quick, winning second balls. Above all for their first goal, as when they equalize, the game changes.”
2. Madrid hands Barcelona La Liga trophy in October
Real Madrid has all but handed Barcelona La Liga title this season after losing 2-1 to Girona. The newly-promoted side came back from 1-0 down to win the match to pile more misery on Zidane side. The defeat means the Catalan giant is now 8 points clear at the top. In Spain, such a gap is so difficult to close down especially when Lionel Messi is scoring goals for fun.
Ernesto Valverde side thrashed Athletic Bilbao 2-0 away from home to maintain their unbeaten record. The closest team is Valencia with 24 points but we all know the Los Blancos are the main challengers. It took them five years to lift the League and now they have handed it back to Camp Nou.
1. BAN- Ronaldo risk another lengthy ban
Zidane nightmare will get even worse when he realizes his star player Cristiano Ronaldo might be banned for a couple of games once again this season. The Portuguese was seen committing a serious foul against Girona midfielder Pere Pons as they prepared to take a corner. The referee did not see it and this means it will be reviewed by a panel and he might be punished.
The FIFA Male World Player of the year has struggled in La Liga so far this season. He has scored only one goal in the League and his team is feeling the effect. He started the season with a 5-match ban after shoving the referee in Spanish Super Cup clash against Barcelona. A ban will be catastrophic to the team as they try to close the 8 point gap opened after the 2-1 defeat to Girona.
