5. Chelsea to beat Premier League rivals over 26-year-old attacker
Chelsea could beat Arsenal and Manchester United to the signing of James Rodriguez this summer, according to Alejandro Moreno.
The Colombian playmaker has been heavily touted with a move to the Premier League over the past six months.
Manager Zinedine Zidane signalled that Rodriguez has no future at The Bernabeu; after the French coach left the South American out of his squad for the Champions League final.
Manchester United were thought to be on the brink of signing the 25-year-old playmaker; as Jose Mourinho looks to prepare for a return to the Champions League next term.
Arsenal have been suggested as another potential destination for the South American midfielder this summer.
However, Chelsea are also interested in the former Monaco man considering the future of current midfielders Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas remains uncertain.
Speaking to ESPN FC, football insider Moreno believes Rodriguez is most likely to be at Chelsea next term.
“I’d say Chelsea [are the club most likely to sign Rodriguez]. There are too many ‘James Rodriguezs’ at Arsenal,” Moreno said.
“The same questions you have about Ozil, you might have about Rodriguez.”
4. Harry Kane is better than Lukaku and Ronaldo – Jason Cundy
Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane is twice the player of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
Kane has managed 99 goals in 165 first-team appearances for Tottenham, including 29 in the Premier League last season; as he topped the scoring charts in England’s leading division.
Lukaku, meanwhile, netted 25 Premier League goals last term; and the Belgian has scored 71 times over the last three years at Everton.
The West Londoners have been strongly linked with a move for Lukaku in this summer’s transfer window; but Cundy has claimed that his former club should be pursuing Kane instead.
Cundy told talkSPORT: “If you are giving me the option to buy either one of those players, I’d take Kane every single day of the week over Lukaku. I would rather Harry Kane over Cristiano Ronaldo, too.”
“All-round, the value he’s going to bring, because of what he can do, the player he’s going to turn into. I have faith in my judgement. Harry Kane is twice the player Lukaku is – based on my eyes, based on my knowledge, based on what I see.”
“He’s twice the player, Kane is twice the player. Harry Kane is a better player, he can hold the ball up with his back to goal and Lukaku can’t. However you dress it up, the better player is Harry Kane.”
Cundy represented Chelsea between 1988 and 1992, before turning out for Tottenham.
3. Defender linked with way out of Chelsea
Chelsea’s out-of-favour defender Kurt Zouma is attracting the interest of both Nice and Lyon, according to reports in France.
Following a lengthy injury layoff, the France international is likely to depart Stamford Bridge this summer; either on loan or permanently.
Kurt Zouma is linked with a way out of Chelsea, with Nice and Lyon both linked, according to Talk Sport.
The two clubs have been watching the 22-year-old closely, with Nice, who finished 3rd in Ligue 1 last season; being able to offer the young centre-back Champions League football.
Lyon is another club with their watchful eye on the two-time-capped French international.
2. Chelsea starlet Mason Mount set for Vitesse loan
Highly-rated Chelsea youngster Mason Mount is poised to join Vitesse Arnhem on loan, HITC Sport reports.
Mount is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at Chelsea; and was recently handed a new deal to keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2021.
The 18-year-old midfielder helped Chelsea win the FA Youth Cup and the Premier League’s Under-18s title last season; and he was rewarded by being named Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year.
The Blues feel England Under-19 international Mount would benefit by going out on loan next season to gain valuable first-team experience; and they are ready to send him to Vitesse despite interest from a number of English Championship clubs.
1. Chelsea to confirm Willy Caballero arrival this week
Chelsea are on the verge of completing their first signing the summer as Willy Caballero will join Stamford Bridge on a free transfer this week.
Caballero left Manchester City at the end of the season after his three-year spell at Etihad Stadium.
The Argentine was allowed to leave after the Etihad club snapped up Ederson Moraes from Benfica; and he’s now set for a switch to the Premier League champions.
The Express report the Blues will confirm the deal this week.
Caballero will provide backup to No.1 Thibaut Courtois, replacing Asmir Begovic who recently moved to Bournemouth.
